Teachings of the Mentor

Author: Fafu

What we say must be true

What we say must be true and we cannot speak falsehoods and deceptive words. That is to say we must accomplish what we promise. What if we forget it? If we forget it, it is called what we say is not true. Why would we forget what we said and promised? How dare we forget it? If we can forget it, it is delusive, fake and not true.

How should we speak? We can speak with caution! We can do like this and it is not a thing full of much difficulty. For example, if we know, we should say we know; if we do not know, we should say we do not know; if we cannot be sure, we should say we cannot be sure; we cannot say things like “maybe, probably, almost”, which is meaningless. Otherwise, we will be always in that delusive karma!

Praise our Kind Mentor

I praise you endlessly, our Kind Mentor, because you have been versed in all of politics, economics, military affairs, culture, nature, science and technology, etc.

I praise you endlessly, our Kind Mentor, because you are a good learner and a good practitioner. You are able to master anything in seven days and finish a thesis in three days no matter how extensive its topic is.

I praise you endlessly, our Kind Mentor, because you can, at ease, utilize anything in life as the fresh materials for teaching the Dharma, which is attractive.

I praise you endlessly, our Kind Mentor, because you are good at guiding us according to our capacities to write essays in order to improve our ability to conduct ourselves in the world, speak, think and discuss.

I praise you endlessly, our Kind Mentor, because you counsel us, in earnest and patience, not to pick up other’s fault just as the five hundred bodhisattvas did in Mahabodhi Sutra.

I praise you endlessly, our Kind Mentor, for your subtle teachings- “When people are self-interested, they are limited; when they are altruistic, they are infinite. When they benefit others, they can truly benefit themselves. When they sacrifice themselves in order to benefit others, they can achieve fastest. While they benefit others, they are planting the good roots of merit, accumulating conditions and achieving reap the good rewards at the same time.

I praise you endlessly, our Kind Mentor, for your unsurpassed teachings- “The mind of cherishing can overcome all obstacles. You can obtain what you cherish.”

I praise you endlessly, our Kind Mentor, because you bestow the excellent Dharma of being loyalty on us- “Comparing the merit of cultivating loyalty with that of being humble is like comparing an earth with a grain of sand.

I praise you endlessly, our Kind Mentor, because you accept the impure offerings of sentient beings compassionately, willing to bear the terrible karma of the sentient beings.

I praise you endlessly, our Kind Mentor, because you are the incarnation of the good Dharma. Even though I am always drifting with my karma, your divine power always makes me feel ashamed deeply in my heart so that I dare not do anything recklessly and can return to the right path immediately.

I am grateful to you and praise you- “Your speech is full of humor without losing its fun; you are humble together with the quality of responsibility; you are elegant and graceful; you are established in compassion which nurtures benefit, gratitude and merits; you save us through perfect skillful means and wisdom; you are unique and embracing everything!”
