Remember that the disciples of the buddhas must learn the teachings of the buddhas. If you try hard to let a person, who pins his faith on the buddhas, not believe the buddhas but you, what you do will be called breaking the monastic harmony. Nowadays there are so many phenomena like this. If you try hard to make those who believe the buddhas and what they taught learn the seeming teachings of the buddhas from you, which are mixed with your own meanings and are not the Buddhas’ at all, this will be called breaking the monastic harmony, namely extinguishing the Buddhadharma. It is a very serious matter.
Praise the Kind Mentor
I praise you endlessly, our Kind Mentor, because you can show the same karma as us at ease: If I love music, you will join me in appreciating the subtlety of melodies.
If I love to write poetry, you will show me your noble and elegant writing.
If I want to learn the meaning of Buddhism, you will preach the unsurpassed subtle teachings according to my capacities.
You are like the Buddha, accompanying me and showing the same karma as me in order to enlighten, lead and inspire me to become a Buddha.”
I praise you endlessly, our Kind Mentor. Though you have the inconceivable depth of the merits and virtues of the buddhas, you are willing to work behind the scenes and help us silently.
I praise you endlessly, our Kind Mentor, because you have the same compassion as Shakyamuni Buddha. It is only you who have never forsaken us that are like “stray dogs” which no one likes, cares for, or wants; it is only you who are willing to let us depend on you so that we will not fall into the web of greed.
I praise you endlessly, our Kind Mentor, because you have been respecting others, accepting their identities and established in the merits and virtues of the buddhas.
I praise you endlessly, our Kind Mentor. You have been always on guard in order to protect us and always there to help in times of crisis.
I praise you endlessly, our Kind Mentor, because you always point out our past events at the most appropriate times so that we can understand through our personal experience and be awakened in time.
I praise you endlessly, our Kind Mentor, because you have bestowed on me the power of dignity and the good condition of living and studying at ease.
I praise you endlessly, our Kind Mentor, because you have taught me not to be in delusion but to behavior according to conditions.
I praise you and are grateful to you. In accordance with the power of your pure vows, great compassion and skillful means, you entered this world and enlightened the unenlightened. We are willing to depend on the merits and virtues of our Kind Mentor to get rid of the various obstacles gradually and when the obstacles are over and the wishes are fulfilled, we will perfect the highest and completely enlightenment.
