🪔 Buddha Lamp
A Song of Wisdom and Compassion
Introduction
“Buddha Lamp” is a heartfelt song written, composed, and performed by Wang Qi (born 1986), an ordinary layperson who created this piece in his 30s.
Using simple, poetic language—without any Buddhist terminology—the lyrics beautifully express profound truths: the cycle of cause and effect across lives, the value of inner purity, and the emptiness of chasing fleeting fame or wealth.
Complete Lyrics
Light a Buddha lamp (inner wisdom) to illumine the path I came
Standing still, gazing back with a calm and wise mind
I arrived in this world without even a shred of cloth
I depart with only an empty shell remaining
Facing the Buddha lamp, I close my eyes in contemplation
What real gain is there, even won a bit of fleeting fame?
Mountains of gold can’t trade for a family’s peace
Only a clear conscience finds rest in eternal peace
Yesterday has become the vicissitudes of this life
Tomorrow will become the traces of this life
Through every trial, the hope never dims and the heart stays forever firm
Light a Buddha lamp to illumine the whole world and all living beings
May the Buddha bless you to always dwell in the light of wisdom,
living with ease and freedom, and finding true happiness and lasting peace.
