Paying Homage to My Teacher

In praise of you, who have dedicated yourself wholeheartedly to the Three Jewels, sparing no expense, with utmost devotion and reverence;

In praise of you, whose unwavering commitment to upholding the Dharma hall is beyond reproach, even in the face of misunderstanding, insults, and slander;

In praise of you, whose compassionate heart bestows the cool Dharma water, transforming wherever you go into a crystal-clear realm;

In praise of you, who have profound understanding of the true laws of life and the universe, always manifesting the Dharma, naturally acting in accordance with these laws, and bringing all things to fruition;

In praise of you, whose purity and elegance naturally reveal the preciousness of monastic life and the grandeur of a Buddha, silently cultivating all beings, and perfecting all beings through joy, anger, lament, and praise;

In praise of you, whose Dharma eye is penetrating, who are skilled in dependent origination and adept at transforming conditions, utilizing any arising condition to establish the most essential foundation that beings do not expect;

In praise of you, who possess all the wondrous qualities and virtues of the Dharma, where person and Dharma are one, demonstrating the Dharma vividly through every detail and at every precise moment, with boundless freedom, exquisite taste, and profound mystery;

In praise of you, the greatest educator, who has a profound understanding of how to educate children;

In praise of you, the unparalleled physician, who heals the physical and mental illnesses of beings anytime and anywhere;

In praise of you, whose great compassion is steadfast, who has attained all-knowing wisdom, who knows all dharmas, and who can precisely grasp every aspect of all dharmas, knowing, without mistake or confusion, the intricate causes and conditions that bring beings everlasting peace and happiness;

In praise of you, who are as steady as a father, standing tall between heaven and earth; as gentle as a mother, serene and graceful; as dedicated as a teacher, striving for the ultimate good; as companionable as a friend, sailing together through life; as loyal as a servant, bestowing all benefits; as compliant as a maid, joyfully dependent.
