What does it mean “The illusion is without joy ”?
“The illusion is without joy .” What is this illusion? It is all illusion. You see the mountain, river and earth, men, women, the old and the young, what is the joy in it? Because illusion itself is unreal, nothing. You are enjoying in all these unreal things. Are you mentally sick?!
Just like the analogy I made for everyone that day, when everyone watched TV, the person watching someone cried in the TV, and he cried; someone laughed, and he also laughed. He knew that there was no one in the TV, it was just a piece of glass. If you cried and laughed at this piece of glass, aren’t you sick? The person who really understands: “Oh, it’s a piece of glass. What is there to be happy about this glass? What else is there to cry?” Really realize that it is just a piece of glass, and he is definitely not deceived by these illusion phenomena. That is the Buddha; To be fooled by these illusion phenomena, that is a stupid sentient being! So, all this is nothing worthy of happiness.
I vow that all sentient beings, such as the truth, can truly realize the manifestation of the ten thousand dharma as the teacher, as the Buddha, and that the present is wonderful and true, and will not be deceived by these illusion phenomena, and will not go crazy.
Only with great compassion and willingness, compassion and joy, to benefit all sentient beings. Have great joy and confidence, great courage and diligence, single-minded, fixedly become a part of oneself, generate wisdom, and cleverly fit the foundation of all beings.
Praises of the Mentor
Recalling the past, there is no reason, no destiny, very bad views;
Looking at the present, poor and lowly, wandering;
Looking to the future, ten bad causes and six bad results, horrible;
Admiring Shurangama, perfect and clear, which clean eyes;
Thank you Master for never abandoning me, I am contented;
Swear to be brave, survive from desperation, and always to be shame.
Endlessly admire you, mentor,
Perfect, precise, skillful and convenient to teach students in accordance with them,
Patient to lead us deep into the teachings of Dharma;
I am full of admiration for you, my mentor,
Proclaim the Dharma perfectly and freely, according to the scriptures and righteousness,
You are the true Buddhist abbot who upholds the Dharma;
I am deeply grateful to you, my mentor,
Bless us like Master Marpa,
Good at knowing advances and retreats, with the help of all conditions,
Eliminate our unbounded evil karma,
Let us rest peacefully from madness, peace is Bodhi.
Just as the “Avatamsaka Sutra” Good Wealth Boy 53 cites:
Because relying on mentors, we are strong and not afraid of all demons;
Can cut all the devil’s nets, can draw all the bitter arrows,
Can get away from stupidity and danger, the great wilderness of evil views,
Can save all beings, can leave all evil ways,
Can show the way of Bodhi, can teach the Dhama,
Can live an life of the Bodhisattva practice…
May all sentient beings see, hear and know the mentor,
Depart from evil and reach bodhi,
consummate the Bodhisattva’s practice.
