The Delusional Series: Part 12 –38 Ignorance 2

One constantly delves into illusions, experiencing illusory gains, losses, pleasures, and pains. Despite the illusory nature of these experiences, one mistakenly clings to them as real. For example, one may believe that they have attained something desirable, such as delicious food or beauty, but this is a delusion. If one truly possessed these things, there would be no need to seek them further. It is like trying to grasp the moon’s reflection in water – one may believe they have captured it, but it is always out of reach. Despite countless attempts, it remains elusive. This mistaken belief arises from conditioning, as one is taught from a young age that they can possess and enjoy material things. However, worldly beings do not understand the true nature of reality. If one truly possessed something, there would be no need to seek it further. The fact that one continues to seek it indicates that they have not attained it. Thus, the initial belief in attainment was erroneous. In reality, all worldly concepts are mistaken and inverted. Those who have not attained anything believe they have, while their true nature remains undiscovered. This constant inversion and error permeates all aspects of worldly existence.

What is inversion? Inversion is error; inversion is ignorance. Remember, these are all mistakes. This is what is meant by ignorance, inversion, error, and delusion. No matter how long one delves into these delusions, they remain errors. For errors inevitably lead to failure. From an ultimate perspective, all beings in the world are fundamentally mistaken. Thus, their actions are called inversions or ignorance. I call them delusions, for they constantly engage in meaningless pursuits, neglecting what is truly beneficial. Instead, they engage in harmful activities.

In essence, our consciousness is like a screen. Just as a computer screen is a two-dimensional surface, our consciousness is a multi-dimensional space, perhaps four-dimensional, five-dimensional, or even higher. This consciousness is empty and luminous. It is because it is empty that it can manifest anything. If one creates the karma of hell, hell will manifest. Similarly, if one creates the karma of heaven, heaven will manifest. It is that responsive. When one acts correctly, one can manifest anything they desire, just like a wish-fulfilling jewel. This is enlightenment, wisdom. Yet, we constantly engage in errors, ignorance, and delusions. Consequently, we mistakenly believe that this physical body is substantial and is our true self.

Since the body and delusions are constantly changing, one must understand the nature of illusion. This understanding is the beginning of enlightenment. Furthermore, one must comprehend how these illusions operate, which involves the principles of cause and effect and conditions. The relationship between cause and effect is the mechanism by which illusions function. Additionally, the manner of operation involves the concept of dependent origination. When illusions operate in a correct manner, they follow a specific developmental path. True enlightenment not only involves understanding the illusory nature of phenomena but also comprehending their subtle workings. This knowledge allows one to skillfully guide these phenomena, much like a gardener tending to a plant. Just as a gardener provides water, nutrients, and protection to ensure optimal growth, one can guide their experiences towards enlightenment by understanding and working with the underlying causes and conditions.
