The Delusional Series: Part 15 –53 The Perils of Delusional Awakening 3
It is crucial to recognize that our habit of pursuing delusions has become deeply ingrained and automatic. To break free from this attachment, we must cultivate a profound aversion to delusions. In other words, the essence of enlightenment lies in developing a complete aversion to delusions. The moment a delusion arises, we must immediately recognize its potential to cause self-harm and endless suffering. Only when we fully understand the harmful consequences of delusions can we truly be said to be enlightened. By developing a deep-seated fear of delusions, we can effectively prevent ourselves from following them. This is the true path to liberation.
To fully awaken, one must observe deeply. Through sustained observation, one will realize that these thoughts and feelings are not truly who they are, but merely the automated fabrications of the past. The observer, the one who witnesses these thoughts, is the true self. When one suffers due to negativity or misfortune, it is because of these delusions. The most effective method to break free from this cycle is through the practice of observing these delusions. By following the precepts and not succumbing to delusions, one can identify those delusions that remain unrecognized and record them for future reference.
The ultimate goal for a Bodhisattva is to fully understand the nature of afflictions. By comprehending the origins, mechanisms, and manifestations of afflictions, one can effectively counteract them. Through this profound understanding, we realize that afflictions inevitably lead to suffering. Moreover, by observing others, we can discern the subtle signs of afflictions in their demeanor, expressions, speech, and actions.
Once we realize that all phenomena are impermanent and illusory, like a moon reflected in water, the allure of worldly desires diminishes. Therefore, cultivating the wisdom of emptiness is crucial. By recognizing the dreamlike nature of reality, we can detach ourselves from suffering and attain liberation.
