The Master clarifies that merit encompasses wisdom, blessings, and abilities, all cultivated through diligent effort. A significant portion of the discussion addresses non-attachment to worldly concerns, symbolized by a lotus flower that remains unstained by mud and water, highlighting the pitfalls of excessive calculation and attachment that lead to suffering. The disciples’ aspirations to be reborn in a Bodhisattva’s household to cultivate virtue are also discussed, emphasizing the importance of establishing positive karmic connections.
