Pride,  one of the afflictions, inevitably gives rise to the eight sufferings, yet remains unrecognized.

For instance, due to pride, one disrespects others. Always feeling superior, they flaunt themselves. The blessings, wisdom, abilities, and even all the good people and deeds that could have been cultivated within oneself are instead rejected. The awakened and wise possess self-awareness, conquering all with humility.

For instance, pride drives one to control and manipulate others. They desire everything to revolve around them and become furious at the slightest inconvenience. The awakened and wise understand their lowly status and the vastness of the world, realizing they have no right to control anyone.

For instance, pride  leads to suppression. One refuses to acknowledge or allow others to surpass them, deliberately seeking fault and making veiled attacks. The awakened and wise desire the elevation of others, knowing that only then can they ascend higher themselves.

For instance,  pride often manifests as a desire to be the center of attention, disregarding context and social hierarchy. Such individuals tend to overshadow others and offer unsolicited advice, disrupting harmony and creating awkwardness. Consequently, they find themselves isolated. The awakened and wise, however, understand the importance of their role and maintain their proper place.

For instance,  pride can also fuel a competitive spirit, leading to constant comparison and a desire to outshine others. This destructive mindset fosters resentment and ill will towards those perceived as superior. By cultivating such negative thoughts, one sows the seeds of countless karmic afflictions. The awakened and wise avoid such actions, recognizing that they lead to a path of suffering.

For instance,  can manifest as defiance and opposition. Such behavior creates discomfort for both oneself and others. The awakened and wise, however, practice respect and harmony, avoiding actions that cause suffering.

For instance,  pride  often manifests as arrogance and a disregard for others. Such individuals position themselves as teachers or authorities, demanding obedience from all. This behavior creates aversion and obstructs spiritual progress. The awakened and wise, on the other hand, humble themselves, fostering greater affinity and unity among people.

For instance,  pride often manifests as stubbornness, with individuals refusing to yield to others. Both parties become entrenched in their own ego, unable to break free. The awakened and wise understand that true greatness lies in humility.

If one is not attached to their ego, can pride arise? Is the suffering caused by pride inevitable?
